The Perfect Morning Routine

Whether you are a morning person or a night owl, this post is for YOU!

Have you ever gone through your day wishing you had more time, or wondered how to make the most out of your day in order to feel more accomplished? Here is my simple solution for you…

GET UP EARLIER!

Thank you, I know, who would have guessed!

And now that I have gotten your attention, i’m going to quiz you.

When you wake up in the morning what is the first thing you do?

A. Go make yourself a cup of coffee so you don’t feel like a zombie

B. Roll out of bed giving yourself just enough time to get ready and run out the door

C. Continue to hit the snooze button  because you set an alarm to go off every 15 minutes

D. Jump out of bed with excitement ready to kick start your day

My guess is only a small handful of people answered D and that’s okay, but I think it’s time we change the equation.

Now, I’m not going to promise that having a morning routine is going to give you super- human powers and a body like J. Lo, but I will say it will make you feel as if you can go throughout your day with an, “I’m going to conquer the world” mentality.

Before I sat down to write this post I started my morning by reading a few pages of a book and wrote a little bit in my journal.

In the short amount of time it took me to make my coffee and sit down in silence before a full day, I was able to focus on myself and sit with my thoughts.

This is why I firmly believe having a morning routine is not just crucial, but necessary.

Have you ever heard of the saying, in order to take care of others we must first take care of ourselves? That is what developing a morning routine is!

A morning routine is finding the time for yourself where you can breathe before your day begins and take in how you feel.

Like any routine it will take time to develop into an everyday habit and thats okay, all I ask is you start somewhere, even if that somewhere means baby steps.

The number one most important to-do is carve out extra time for yourself before you actually need to begin getting ready for your day. Maybe right now you give yourself 30 minutes ahead of when you would normally get up and if you discover that is not enough time, maybe make it 1 hour. Remember…baby steps

Make sure you also find a space for yourself where you can be alone and feel relaxed. Maybe that’s your bed, a cozy couch or chair, somewhere you are comfortable!

Want to spice it up even more? Grab your favorite morning beverage, coffee, tea or smoothie, as well as your go-to blanket for instant comfort.

Regardless of whether you journal 3 pages, 1 page or just a few sentences, the biggest morning practice I can recommend to you is writing down what you are grateful for.

THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING TO BE GRATEFUL FOR.

Even the smallest thing, for example:

  • the first sip of my morning coffee
  • puppy cuddles
  • last night’s delicious home cooked meal

There are so many blessings in our life that we can easily take them for granted.

When you begin to focus your energy on the good, soon you will realize how much it outweighs the bad, and don’t we want to start our day on the best possible note we can?

As for a book to read in the morning, I like to read on the topic of personal growth and mindset but maybe for you it might look more like a newspaper, or a fiction novel. What you need to remember is this time is for you to get yourself focused and ease your way into what may be a fast-paced work day ahead.

I am absolutely LOVING this beautiful book of art and poetry called, All Along You Were Blooming by Morgan Harper Nichols. I received it as a gift for Easter and I read a few pages every morning. I Highly recommend!

This is just an introduction of what your morning routine can look like. Remember, not everyone is a morning person and I totally get that!

This was not something that came naturally to me either, but in time I soon realized how vital it is for my everyday routine and why I must always prioritize it.
